Workshop Logistics
- Flower City Art Center is about 2½ miles from the hotel.
- Free parking across the street from the Flower City Arts Center, in the Blessed Sacrament Church parking lot.
- Six Half-Day Workshops will run for one or two sessions, in the morning, and/or in the afternoon, as indicated in the workshop description.
- Morning sessions: 9:00am – 12:00pm
- Lunch (on your own): 12:00pm – 1:30pm
- Afternoon sessions: 1:30pm – 4:30pm
- One Full-Day workshop will run as a morning and afternoon session with a lunch break.
- Space is limited, so please register early.
- All Half-Day Workshops are $60 per session.
- The Full-Day Workshop is $120.
Workshop #1: Experimental Letterpress Printing

In this 3 hour workshop, learn how to create spontaneous and fun compositions on the letterpress. By creating printing plates out of found materials, using new techniques like pressure printing, and playing with color, students will discover the ways in which letterpress can go beyond simply horizontal type. All skill levels welcome! All materials provided.

Workshop #2: Paper Marbling: Ebru Style

Experience traditional Ebru paper marbling techniques in this hands-on class. Use rakes and combs to create intricate designs, experimenting with unique patterns. Finished papers are ideal for endpapers, bookmarks, greeting cards, book covers, and more. Suitable for all skill levels.

Workshop #3: Stationery: Custom Wax Seals

Wax seals can elevate any project! In this quick and easy class, you will learn how to create a custom wax seal! Starting either as a hand-drawn image or created on the computer, you will walk through the step-by-step process of making your vision a reality. We will work in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, then cut the seal using the brilliant technology of a Glowforge laser cutter! The final step will be to create 20 wax seals! Students are encouraged to trade seals at the end of the class. This is a great way to add that extra something to any of your printing or book art creations!

Workshop #4: Color Registration Workshop

Whether you’re printing from woodcuts, linoleum, polymer or silk screen, there are a few preliminary steps you can take to help save time and material. In this workshop, you will learn a few tips to help you set up your printing job and to make more accurate and faster color changes.

Workshop #5: Risograph / Letterpress Collage Workshop

Have you heard of Risography? A photocopying screenprinter. Do you love collage and typography?
Come mash it up with Popolo Press, Montreal Printmaker and Artistic/General Director of the Suoni per il Popolo Music Festival.
This 1 day intensive course will show you how to cut and paste your way to awesome color and design!
Covers the basics of collaging with images and wood type. You will make several images to make into either a poster, mini-zine, cards or an art print. The afternoon will involve learning the basics of risography and turning the morning’s works into awesome colorful prints. Leave with 20 limited edition prints of your own making and many hot tips and tall tales.
This is a Full-Day Session with a lunch break, Limit of 8 Participants.

Open Studio with Tour & Demonstration: Virgin Wood Type

We will show some of our historic patterns and the new patterns that we are making. Overview of the process of making end grain maple to .921 inches high. We will demonstrate how we cut wood type using our pantograph, it is very different from Hamilton’s. We will show you how we hand trim the letters and the final step proofing the type on a Vandercook No.3 with carbon paper so the type does not get inky.
