What is the Amalgamated Printers’ Association?
Founded in 1958, the Amalgamated Printers’ Association (APA) is a hobby printers’ organization devoted to letterpress printing. Our members, both amateur and professional, share printed work, technical knowledge, and a love of type and press.
The heart of the APA is the monthly bundle: an exchange of original letterpress-printed pieces mailed to members. Each member produces four pieces per year, printed by hand using letterpress. With membership limited to 150, participation is manageable and flexible, limited only by your imagination and equipment.
Members may also take part in optional projects such as an annual calendar, Treasure Gems (a bound collection of member pages), and other printing exercises. An annual wayzgoose, our printers’ gathering, brings members together for printing-related events and camaraderie.
Annual dues are $45 (for U.S. membership; additional postage for international members is requested). Membership is limited and often includes a waiting list. To apply, View & Download the application blank here.
Fill out the application, then mail it AND a sample of your letterpress printing to the APA Secretary/Treasurer listed below. DO NOT send in dues at this time. When there is an opening in membership, you will be notified and at that time you may remit your dues.
