Remembering Selene Fisher (#855)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Folks in the Pacific Northwest learned recently that Selene Fisher passed away suddenly on May 21, 2026. An APA member since 2010, Selene was an enthusiastic and adventurous printer, often incorporating letterpress printing into her expansive interest in book arts. She served as president of the Seattle Book Arts Guild, and was also\u00a0an active member of Puget Sound Book Artists and Belltown Book Artists. She served as Board Secretary for the biennial Focus On Book Arts Conference, for which she was also the registrar and scheduled to teach three classes this year. Book arts nurtured Selene\u2019s endless curiosity, creativity, and sense of fun.<\/p>\n

Our deepest condolences go to Selene\u2019s husband Jim, her other family members, and community of friends.<\/p>\n

An All-Too-Sudden Departure<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

We are writing today to share some very sad news: Selene Fisher passed away May 21. She was a vital board member of FOBA, our Secretary, our Registrar, a FOBA instructor, and so much more. She started volunteering for FOBA in 2019, became a board member in 2021, and was always ready to jump in and help at any level \u2014 from helping cook meals and make beds at our retreat, to wrangling our Round-Robins, to helping search for a new conference location. She was also the President of the Seattle Book Arts Guild, a printmaker, an artist, and a consistent connector of all the Pacific Northwest\u2019s book arts communities.<\/p>\n

We will miss Selene\u2019s smiling face, and baseball caps. Our Zoom meetings and gatherings won\u2019t be the same without her. Her emails were always true to her feelings, and she made us laugh so many times. She helped teach us things we didn\u2019t know we needed to know, in a patient, and humorous way. We also loved her contributions to our Round-Robin books \u2014 so creative and heartfelt, and we could tell she spent so much time on each one! \u00a0We will be bringing some of these Round-Robin treasures to the FOBA conference, to share with all of you.<\/p>\n

As board member Cindy Luxhoj put it: \u201cI\u2019ve never met a funnier, more upbeat, roll-with-the-punches woman than Selene and will miss her energy and crazy overalls so much!\u201d<\/p>\n

Thank you Selene, for sharing your creative and fun-loving passions with us, for pulling off amazing feats in short amounts of time, and for keeping us all connected through book arts. We will do our best to keep your laughter in our hearts, and in our books, as we move forward \u2014 as we know you would want us to.<\/p>\n

To honor Selene\u2019s vision and her vibrant personality, we have found three great instructors to cover her workshops \u2014 so we can try to replicate the *Fun* she intended to share at FOBA. Glenda Goodrich, Rosemary Rae, and Anne Sobbota will be filling her shoes, while putting their own spin on each workshop. They all have extensive experience and expertise, and we are grateful for their willingness to step in during this difficult time. We remain committed to providing a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants while also honoring the memory and contributions of Selene.<\/p>\n
