R.I.P. Don Black…

Just saw this on the LetPress Listserve message base today:

“It’s with a heavy heart I post, with Ruth’s permission, that Don Black, one of my oldest letterpress friends, and mentor, passed peacefully June, 3 2023.

“I’ve known Don since 2001 or so, became good friends with him and his son Craig. We’d always call and trade stories and the most fun was poking political jabs at one another. Sorry Don, still couldn’t get Trudeau to leave Canada for you.

“In recent years since Craig’s passing Don would call me every couple weeks. We’d joke, talk shop, and throw the Maple Leafs under the bus. His was one of those names that would pop up on the phone, and no matter what, I’d stop and pick it up.

“Last year I started helping Don sell his prized collection from his private stash in his basement. I’m gonna miss hanging out with him and going through the cases. Not sure why he picked me to help him out with this, but super happy he did.

“If you have any old printers or old timers in your field, reach out, say hi, trade some stories, and have a laugh. Will miss his name popping up on my phone.

“I will post his services once I hear from Ruth and the family for anyone who would like to attend if they do a public service.

“Please share some stories and memories here I’d love to know how he got along with the rest of you!”
