When placed behind a blank sheet and run through an inked printing press, that sheet will transfer subtle variations in texture, revealing a beautiful range of tones, patterns, and impressions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Instructor: Judi Tentor<\/strong><\/p>\n Morning Session, 9am-12pm, Limit of 8 Students Drum leaf bindings are elegant, lay-flat structures ideal for showcasing photographs and prints. In this workshop, you\u2019ll learn the techniques behind constructing this ingenious binding and its unique method of assembly. Each spread is formed from a single folded folio so that images can run seamlessly across the gutter without interruption. The finished book opens completely flat for a smooth, uninterrupted viewing experience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Instructor: Bill Berkuta<\/strong><\/p>\n Morning Session, 9am-12pm, Limit of 6 Students Intimidated by the platen press? Having make-ready problems? Worried about smashing pins, overpacking, or uneven impressions? This hands-on workshop will help you refine essential platen press skills, including registration, pin placement, proper packing, and troubleshooting. Learn how to adjust the platen correctly, tricks on adjusting roller height, and learn how to diagnose issues and reduce wear by truly listening to the press.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Instructor: Ira Newlander<\/strong><\/p>\n Morning Session, 9am-12pm, Limit of 6 Students This is an introduction to the amazing Ludlow Typecaster, where you will learn basic operations and cast slugs. With access to the Museum\u2019s collection of Ludlow fonts, you will be able to cast lines of type to take home with you. The workshop will cover operations, use of various typesticks such as italic, offset, and multiple slug, and maintenance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Instructors: Jun Ha & Dave Bow<\/strong><\/p>\n Morning Session, 9am-12pm, Limit of 12 Students Explore the distinctive, vibrant process of Risograph printing. Create 1-2 color designs on a Risograph duplicator, while learning how to set up images, change color drums, print in layers, and register colors. Participants can bring B&W photos (up to 5×7) to incorporate into their collage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Instructor: Jessica Spring<\/strong><\/p>\n Morning Session, 9am-12pm, Limit of 8 Students Utilizing the Dave Peat and Smithsonian Collections of rare metal type, Jessica will discuss strategies for composing and printing fragile antique and ornamental type. After demonstrations in the use of circular quads along with a few other tricks, each student will explore typesetting curves or waves to be locked up, printed, and exchanged in a small edition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Instructor: Janet Kupchick<\/strong><\/p>\n Afternoon Session, 2pm-5pm, Limit of 6 Students Print a traditional broadside with a modern vibe using letterpress and rare wood type from the Dave Peat Collection in this unique workshop. Compose a phrase. Select your font. Apply your color of ink. IMPRESS YOUR POWERFUL MESSAGE ON PAPER. This workshop is hands-on and very active. You\u2019ll learn the basics of silkscreen printing for paper and apparel\u2014from preparing your artwork to pulling prints.
