In 1829, Sam Patch<\/a>, the first American Daredevil to jump Niagara Falls, unsuccessfully jumped the roaring Upper Falls in Rochester.\u00a0 In honor of that spirit of adventure, we invite APA members to come to the 2025 APA Daredevil Wayzgoose in Rochester, New York.<\/p>\n

Ranked #9 on U.S. News & World Reports’ list<\/a> of the Best Places to Live for Quality of Life in the U.S. in 2023-2024. Rochester has one of the most lively letterpress scenes in the country, including: Flower City Arts Center’s<\/a> huge book arts program; Virgin Wood Type<\/a> manufacturing; Dry Inc.<\/a> letterpress supplies and print shop; Type High Letterpress<\/a> shop, classes and sales; the fabled RIT Cary Library<\/a>\/makerspace letterpress lab<\/a>; plus several other commercial letterpress shops and studios. You will be able to visit nearly all of these during the goose, plus Buffalo’s Western New York Book Arts Center<\/a>, and Syracuse’s Boxcar Press<\/a> are just a short drive away.<\/p>\n

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n

Register early! The special deal we negotiated with the Wyndham Rochester Downtown Hotel (the event hotel) expires on May 15, 2025. The rooms can only be booked by calling the phone number on the hotel accommodations<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

TRAVEL TIPS<\/span><\/h3>\n

Rochester is an easy city to navigate. You can get anywhere in 20 minutes, and even during rush hour traffic moves along. Cabs, Lyft, Uber and RTS Bus services are available to and from the airport, and to get around town. We’re facilitating car-pooling to offsite events. WhatsApp<\/a> will be used to communicate during the wayzgoose using the community Daredevil Goose 2025<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\n

WAYZGOOSE KEEPSAKES<\/h3>\n

Attendees are encouraged to print a special keepsake for the Wayzgoose. Please print at least 100. You can deliver them at check in or mail ahead of time to be distributed at the Wayzgoose. Keepsake prints do not count as a bundle item, so do not count towards the minimum participation requirement.<\/p>\n

APA DAREDEVIL WAYZGOOSE SCHOLARSHIPS<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

These scholarships are designed to sponsor a current APA member and\/or a current\/former student of a letterpress printer to make attending their first wayzgoose more affordable and attainable. This year, the scholarship is anticipated to cover the basic registration fee and a travel\/accommodations stipend for a total award of approximately $500. Two scholarships will be awarded.
